An Albatross
An Albatross
An Albatross is a psychedelic sonic orgasm; a barrage of mechanical, jerky and discombobulated time signatures eclipsed by hectic Farfisa organ/synthesizer melodies. Not unlike sitting down with an average American family during primetime television, the music is unquestionably attention-span friendly for an ADD-diagnosed society: unbelievably short, complex, infectious bursts of polyrhythms and spirit.

Currently, the "family" includes percussionista Steven Vaiani, writhing, psychedel-evangelist vocalist Eddie B. Gieda III, rhythmic contortionista bassist Jay Hudak, Farfisa/Hammond-master, Phillip Reynolds Price and newest family member: thundergod guitarist Daniel Schlett.
After relocating their facilities to spaces in both Wilkes-Barre, PA and South Amboy, NJ, in early 2008 the group began orchestrating their most robust and progressive work yet: "The An Albatross Family Album."

Dead Empires
Dead Empires
“Dead Empires sound like what Cloudkicker could’ve been in an alternate universe in which Ben Sharp was influenced by doomy, stoney High on Fire riffs instead of atmospheric post rock and Meshuggah… with a few extra bong rips thrown in for good measure. The Hudson Valley, NY instrumental three-piece brings it hard on their latest offering Waiting in Waves, and this new, previously unreleased track offers a taste of what’s in store on their soon-to-be-released next effort.” -Metalsucks.net

“Based in the Hudson Valley, which is in all reality our back yard (and front yard), it seems strange to only now have our eyes opened and ears blasted by a three piece instrumental band that both embraces and denounces genre tagging. With a range of styles, and a wealth of intelligent intensity, Waiting In Waves was ahead of its time.” -Sorrow Eternal Music Blog

While the band is instrumental, they choose not to label themselves as such- the sound is ever-evolving, and they’d prefer to put out music that is organic, natural, passionate- rather than stick to a particular genre. The band likes to combine a wide range of influences to produce a sound that sways from epic, ethereal soundscapes to heavy post-rock riffs, rounded out with good old fashioned sludgy heaviness.

Biography
Danny Sher loves weird music. Ever since he started playing drums at age 9, he's been enamored with all things heavy, dissonant, elusive, and improvisational. Throughout high school he played in metal bands and punk bands as well as freelance jazz gigs all over his hometown of St. Louis. After high school, Sher moved to NYC to study jazz at New School University.

In 2005, at a casual jam session in a friend's basement in STL, he met bassist Nick Jost (Baroness). As the two got to know each other, it became apparent that they were both at a similar creative crossroads. They wanted to incorporate their improvisational skills and experimental sensibilities into more aggressive and chaotic genres of music. Sher was particularly drawn to the atonality of No Wave artists like Sonic Youth, Glenn Branca, and Lydia Lunch. In 2012, Jost moved to Brooklyn and the two began their quest to find a couple of like-minded guitarists to help turn their vision of cerebral shredding into a reality.

Of the many creative geniuses Sher met in NYC, two particular gentlemen immediately came to mind. Straight outta the cornfields of rural Iowa, Travis Reuter is a prodigious guitarist with an unbelievably authentic and powerful style of shredding. He is, in Sher's eyes, the embodiment of an avant-metal guitarist.

The other person that Sher considered absolutely crucial for capturing the destructive nature of this music was Andrew Smiley (Empyrean Atlas, Little Women). A native of Connecticut, Smiley is one of the most authentic, creative, and downright diabolical musicians alive today. As an improviser he is instantly recognizable, not only by the content of his ideas but by the inherent evil in his tone. A true deconstructionist of no wave, punk rock, noise rock, and free jazz.

Once the personnel was sorted out, Sher began ferociously composing. The band started rehearsing regularly and started planning their first recording. On April 9-10, 2016, Horse Torso convened at the basement studio of John Dyer Baizley (Baroness) to record their debut album, "Wolf who cried boy".
